and next week this kid will start back to public school for high school.

I never thought I’d homeschool for a year, and I definitely never imagined 6. The days were super long, but they were worth it.

Tanner has grown SO much and I’m so proud of the person he is becoming. He made the decision on his own to go back to public school and worked really hard last year with this goal in mind.

I’m so excited to see what he accomplishes this year…. and a little nervous, but mostly excited ❤️

This used to happen to me all the time, but it’s rare now. This was a small class, only 4 students, but they are typically always all in class together. I was so surprised when no one came. I kept checking to see if I was in the right zoom 🤪

OutSchool has a pretty good policy regarding this. After 10 minutes, teachers can log off if students haven’t showed up. We still get paid our normal amount too 🤗

Tanner was the BEST crew chief. He had a cooling towel ready for me each lap and a new ice cold water bottle ready for me to swap out whenever I needed it.

It was a 6 hour race, but I was constantly counting down until the last hour when I knew he would be allowed to run with me. He (in the most loving teenager way) teased me that he had never seen me run so slow 😂 but then continued to distract me with many laughs that last hour.

He even said he wants to run the race with me next year 👀👏🏻🤗 (they also give out an award to the youngest finisher… and I think that motivated him more lol)

There were many years Tanner HATED running and wanted nothing to do with it. I love that he has come back to it I can share my hobby with him ❤️

It’s been over 5 years since I left public educa

It’s been over 5 years since I left public education and almost 7 years since I was a classroom teacher.

It’s always around this time of year that I REALLY miss it 🥹 I don’t have any regrets about my decision to resign, but I still always wonder how different life would be if I would have stayed.

I renewed my teaching certificate in the months prior to resigning…. over 5 years ago. Its been 5.5 years since I taught in a public school, which meant it was time for my certificate to expire 😵‍💫 It’s so much easier to renew when you are actively teaching for a district.

So many people “warned” me that it can take months for the DOE to review your application. I heard stories of people who were told the classes they took didn’t count and stories of people who struggled to get it done.

I’ll admit it was a pain. I had to pay to take online college classes and retook a certification exam. I had no idea if the classes I took would count, but I just followed the guidelines and hoped for the best.

My certificate expired June 30. I finally paid and submitted my application the evening of June 28. By July 9th I was approved and had my updated certificate.

I’m not sure if I just got lucky, but I’m not complaining. I don’t currently need a valid teaching certificate, but I’m glad to have it. There is no telling what the future holds, and I like to have options 😏

I haven’t worked a Friday since I resigned in 2019. For the most part, we only homeschooled Monday-Thursday too. Friday was always our free day. It was the day to catch up on things that didn’t get done during the week.

When I started to teach on OutSchool, I made sure to only schedule classes Monday-Thursday. I’ll be honest… between homeschool, online teaching, and working TpT/social media Monday-Thursday I am EXHAUSTED come Friday. If I do end up working on the weekend, it’s on my time and doing something I want to do ❤️

One of the best parts of teaching on OutSchool is the flexibility to take off whenever I want/need to. I truly love the classes I teach, so it wasn’t hard easing back into my routine when I returned.

I’ve been working on creating my summer schedule now and thinking about what I want to teach in the Fall. I’ve always homeschooled my son while teaching on OutSchool, which means my time has been very limited. I’ve never taught over 8 hours in one week 🫣

With him returning to public school next year, I’m thinking of teaching closer to 15 hours/week. I’m not sure if I’ll get the enrollment, because that’s over double the hours I’m currently at. I’m going to try though… I need to stay busy and I REALLY want to go on another trip 🤪
